Madison on Track 2045
A community-based planning effort to shape the future of Madison through an update of the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
Linking the past, driving the future.
What is Madison on Track 2045?
As a comprehensive plan, Madison on Track 2045 will be a policy document for use by city leaders, developers, business owners, and citizens to make decisions about future growth, development, policy, and capital improvements. It will also serve as a vision for the City, developed by the community, for the community, based on community-wide values and inputs.
Comprehensive plans have been used for decades to aid decision-makers in the process of building and maintaining cities. Madison on Track 2045 will help the City plan strategically for both short and long-term growth scenarios so that decisions can be based on sound information, core values, and agreed-upon goals, strategies, and priorities. This organized and steady approach, enabled by Alabama statute, will help Madison keep perspective as the City looks toward 2045.
Planning…It’s not just for adults anymore.

Phase I is in Progress!
February 2022
The comprehensive plan update is underway! Phase I of the project includes extensive community analysis and the preparation of a Community Profile. It is truly foundational, serving as the research, diagnostic, and visioning effort upon which the balance of the plan’s development will rely. This phase kicked off in early February 2022 with the consultant team in Madison to meet with City staff, elected and appointed officials, key stakeholders, and the Plan Advisory Committee. During this time a kick-off public workshop was also held. Check out the “Plan Progress” page for outreach outcomes from this first engagement. Sign up for our mailing list at the bottom of this page or visit the “Get Involved” tab below for more information on how you can stay involved in the plan’s progress!
